Kristian Ranta, CEO and Founder of Meru Health, accepts the Best Mental Health Company award from Lindy Fishburne, Executive Director of Breakout Labs, at the UCSF Digital Health Awards 2019.

When you’re working in the heart of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, you learn about incredibly innovative companies — especially in the Digital Health space, one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Meru Health has been privileged to have a seat at the table with extraordinary companies, such as Lyra Health, Omada, Ginger IO, AbleTo, SilverCloud, and many, many more.

That’s why we were BLOWN AWAY and humbled when Meru Health was named the Best Mental Health Company at the UCSF Digital Health Awards 2019! At the October 10th awards reception, we had the chance to ask some of the 250 judges why they voted for Meru Health. Hands down, they all said Meru Health’s comprehensive, evidence-based treatment program influenced their decision when choosing the Best Mental Health Company.

What are the UCSF Digital Health Awards & why do they matter?

UC San Francisco’s Health Hub created the Digital Health Awards for many reasons. But foremost, the organization recognized that when a new digital health solution is released, evaluation takes a lot of time and resources. As a result, UCSF Health Hub has taken a leadership role curating and validating digital health companies to help educate the market about:

  • Which solutions have the proper evidence and track record behind them
  • What solutions organizations should buy and offer their employees or patients

How did the review and selection process work?

For the 2019 awards, UCSF screened more than 500 digital health companies and selected winners for 14 different categories. There were 250 non-compensated judges — industry leaders including professors, researchers, doctors, healthcare innovators, and venture capitalists — all with expertise in evaluating the efficacy and evidence of these award-winning companies.

Who benefits from these awards?
Let’s be candid: we need digital health solutions to help us address our growing healthcare crisis. But it’s hard work to keep up with and evaluate every single new company. According to Mark Goldstein, Chairman of UCSF Health Hub, with an annual process of reviewing market solutions, everyone wins. Companies/Employers win as they receive respected validation for their buying choices, and they don’t have to put more time and resources into conducting exhaustive evaluations for each digital health solution. Doctors and clinicians win because they find the best healthcare solutions faster. Finally, patients win because they get access to the best possible care more quickly.

Meru Health is thrilled to receive the award as Best Mental Health Company! We will ensure that our treatment program consistently lives up to this title, and continue our rigorous research that brought us to this esteemed position in the marketplace!
